France starts on-road tests of FSD after rejecting the Dutch approval
Two Tesla-supplied cars are being tested on French roads so France can take a position before an EU vote.
France has begun testing FSD (Supervised) on public roads, according to Reuters. Transport Minister Philippe Tabarot described a constructive exchange with Elon Musk, and Tesla is providing two cars. The goal is to check the Dutch and Tesla data against French conditions before France takes a position at EU level.
This is not an approval. In July Tabarot said the safety trade-offs — speeding and driver attention in dense urban traffic — were not yet sufficient, and France declined to adopt the RDW approval on its own.
France carries about 15% of the EU population, so its vote matters for any qualified majority.
